It is for the most part a shallow gravely soil, about ½ under pasture with occasional patches of rocks, the remainder tillage. There are many respectable farmers but by far the greater part are of the humbler class.

In the Barony of Clare, bounded on the North by the Parish of Kilmoylan, E. by the Parish of Abbey, S. by Athenry and Claregalway Parishes and W. by the Parish of Annaghdown. 6 Irish miles N.E. of Galway.
